San Francisco Hearts and Curves Aaah, Lombard Street. Nice to visit, but wouldn't want to live there. Curviest street in the world (except for all the other streets probably just as curvy in other places), Lombard attracts far too many drivers for its curvy thrills.
On my hike from Fisherman's Wharf back to Market Street, I trotted down Lombard on foot. Whle I was doing so a gaggle of 20 some-odd Honda motorcycles charged into the street, ran right up within an inch of a driver's bumper, and revved their engines so loud it was earsplitting. They honked and made rude remarks. When they got to the bottom of the street, they did wheelies in the intersection. Lots of tourists took pictures, but I didn't give them the honor of showing up in my camera. Instead I focused on a more serene depiction of the street, with Coit tower in the background.

Earlier in the day, I stopped by the San Francisco library, next to the Asian Art Museum. It's a spectacular library, truly one of America's ten best city-owned facilities at the least. Inside was one of the heart sculptures that are dotted throughout San Francisco at the moment. Eventually most of the sculptures will be auctioned off for charity. This one below had a bunch of poems written by children on it. The one in the middle says, "Hate is a little man banging at my heart; Love is my heart swallowing up the little man." That is exactly how I felt about Ross Perot.
